Originating in 1976 by American, Brad Parks, the game has developed from a recreational activity to a competitive, professional sport. To meet this challenge, USTA Kentucky offers tennis programs specifically designed for the wheelchair player. In the ITF men's rankings of November, 2006, Robin Ammerlaan of the Netherlands ranks first. All text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License . The only rule that differs from pedestrian tennis is the one that concerns the number of bounces a ball may take before it must be played. The pair were invited to attend Vic Braden 's tennis college in Mission Viejo . A wheelchair tennis player must have a medically diagnosed, mobility-related disability, with a substantial or total loss of function in one or more extremities.
